Am I Ready for This Audition?

It’s difficult to feel ready for an audition - nerves tend to get the better of most of us. Heck, public speaking (let alone SINGING) is among the most common fears in the United States. I have compiled a checklist that you can use to determine your level of preparedness for each and every audition. Eventually, these things will become second nature, especially if you audition all the time! But for now, feel free to use this as a tool to calm your mind and crush every audition you get!

  •     Have I chosen what I’m singing?

  •     Have I chosen what I’m wearing?

  •     Have I read about the show?

  •     Do I know the character I am the best fit for? – This can be different than the character you like the most.

  •     Do I know the arc of the show?

  •     Do I know the style of the show?

  •     If there will be a dance portion, have I picked out clothing to dance in?

  •     Have I warmed up?

  •     Do I have a back-up song, just in case they ask for one?

  •     Have I prepared as much as I can in the time I had, with the material available to me?

  • Do I have current headshots and resumes?

  •     Do I feel like I can handle anything they throw at me?

If you can answer “yes” to all of these questions, then you are READY! All that’s left to do is go in, breathe, do what you rehearsed, and have fun!

If you answered “no” to ANY of the above questions, the you are NOT READY. There is more you can do to prepare for your audition, so go do it! There will always be someone as talented as you, do not let yourself walk in unprepared.
